Current laws addressing the ownership of Moon Real Estate on Earth's Moon

The current United Nations (UN) International Space Law Treaty prohibits ownership of Moon land and/or any planets in our Solar System. The UN placed this treaty "en-force" in 1984 after only 13 countries signed and adopted it. With respect to ownership Moon Real Estate, it follows the same basic principles as the UN Treaty established for the use of Earth's Sea Floor.

The larger issue with the International Space Law Treaty is that it was only signed by a handful of nations, and none of these nations has an aspiring interest in a space program. In fact, the United States, Russia, China and Japan have refused to adopt this treaty. Lunar Properties™ believes future International Celestial property and Moon Real Estate rights will be developed by the countries that are first to colonize the Moon and other planets in our Solar System, not the UN.

How can Lunar Properties™ sell lunar land claims?

Lunar Properties is not selling land on Moon, we are selling the novelty registration of a claim for Moon land with the International Celestial Lands Registry™, our proprietary database. When you buy land on the Moon, you are registering a claim for moon land; or in simpler terms, you are adopting an area on the surface of the Moon for you or someone special in your life. You will be able to point to this area and know you have registered it with the International Celestial Lands Registry™ for you or someone special in your life, which will be printed and maintained by Lunar Properties™.

Lunar Properties™ believes future Lunar missions, with manned moon bases and mining operations, will force the nations with viable space exploration programs to develop internationally recognized Celestial Property laws governing the ownership of lunar land and an internationally recognized process allowing individuals to buy the moon. The United Nations has attempted to address lunar and space land ownership laws but most of the world has ignored the UN International Space Law Treaty; in fact, none of the countries with a viable space program have adopted this treaty and it has only been signed by 13 countries since 1979. Claims for ownership of Lunar land may follow the same course as early American land and mining claims. One type of early American land claim allowed claimants to make their claim "without any action on the ground", meaning the claimant did not have to "Stake" their claim. This is just one of the legal basis' Lunar Properties is using to justify our right to register Lunar Land Claims. The second legal basis justifying our right to sell you Moon Real Estate claims is that by registering your Moon Land Claim through Lunar Properties, Lunar Properties is expressly quitclaiming and transferring directly to you, any ownership rights the company may have in the particular lot purchased, and to the extent Lunar Properties may have an ownership claim in and to the lot purchased by you, our Company is transferring those Lunar land ownership rights to you by quitclaim registration and Lunar Properties will record your Moon Real Estate claim in the International Celestial Lands Registry™, our proprietary database housed in Washington D.C.

There are other companies out there proclaiming they own the Moon outright. Common sense would indicate these companies are making fraudulent statements. Lunar Properties™ believes we possess as much ownership rights to the surface of the Earth's Moon as any other entity or individual, and Lunar Properties has just as much right to sell Claims for property on the Moon as anyone else. As such, when you buy land on the Moon from Lunar Properties, you are really purchasing (i) a registration in our proprietary database of a claim to a specified lot/s on the surface of Earth's Moon, and (ii) all of Lunar Properties™ rights, title and interest in and to such lot by quitclaim registration, but only to the extent such ownership rights may exist.

As for someone saying they own the Moon because they were the first to make such a claim, that is simply a false proclamation. Individual claims for ownership of land on Moon date back to the early 1900's.

Still, others claim they are raising money in order to build a permanent Lunar settlement. NASA estimates it will cost over $100 Billion for the U.S. to send 4 Astronauts to the Lunar surface for a 7 day stay. The building and manning of Lunar settlements by private entities is unattainable at this point in time. Lunar Properties makes none of these wild claims.

Why Plan Future Missions the Moon?

There are many compelling reasons for Future Missions to the Moon, which include:

  • The manufacture of liquid Oxygen on the moon for use on earth as well as future missions to Mars and the rest of the solar system.
  • The mining of Helium 3 (He3). Many scientists believe He3 is a good source of nuclear power for fusion reactors. He3 fusion does not produce radioactive material, making it is clean source of energy. He3 is not readily available on earth, but it is abundant on the moon.
  • Landing Humans on the Moon is a source of National Prestige and Pride for the countries planning future missions to the moon (see the list of countries along the right side of this page).
  • Successful lunar missions will allow a country to play a more important role in the world space science field.
  • Future missions to the moon will increase the engineering technology needed to build a successful platform necessary for transporting humans to Mars.
  • Returning to the moon will aid in the scientific study of the origins of our solar system and the origin of the Moon itself.
  • There is the proposal to build a solar power station on the moon which could help power cities on Earth, spaceships and satellites. Because of the lack of cloud cover on the moon, large fields of solar arrays could be built on the moon in order to beam energy back to earth which would be used to power our cities.
  • The private development of Space Tourism.
